3M's Sweeney to Deliver First Sustainable U Seminar Oct. 1

"Sustainable U," a new, college-wide 2009-2010 seminar series established by the College of Engineering, will begin with a 4:30 to 5:20 p.m. Thursday, October 1 talk by Jean Sweeney, vice president, environmental, health and safety operations, 3M Company, St. Paul, Minn. The talk is free and open to the public.
"Sustainable U" is designed to share sustainability experiences, challenges, and best practices from industry leaders recognized for world-class sustainability programs with students, faculty, staff, local and state government officials and corporate partners. The series includes one seminar each semester featuring senior people from industry associations and select corporations.
Born and raised in Montana, Sweeney earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Montana State University and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis. Upon graduating, she joined 3M, working in product development, plant management and marketing and serving as manufacturing director for 3M Australia in Sydney and managing director of 3M Taiwan in Taipei. Her nonprofit, volunteer activities include serving as a board member of Any Baby Can and helping feed the homeless. She also is a member of the new UI Water Sustainability Advisory Board.
