Air pollution engineering, high-speed computing, and biochemical engineering are the bases of my research interests. Much of my work focuses on the application of chemical engineering fundamentals to air pollution problems. This involves developing and using comprehensive models to quantify the fate and impact of chemicals released into the atmospheric environment.

Man-Made Pollutants
My three-dimensional atmospheric chemistry model is being used to quantify the impact and fate of man-made pollutants emitted into the atmosphere on regional and global scales. Research on major environmental issues such as acid deposition, regional-scale photochemical oxidant exposure, and the nature of our future atmospheric environment under pending global environmental change are being conducted in my laboratories.

To support this research, I'm also conducting research in high-speed supercomputing (including parallel processing), sensitivity analysis, and air pollution control policy.

My group's work is multidisciplinary and international. We work closely with the University's Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research, which coordinates the multidisciplinary research of 65 faculty members from 22 University of Iowa departments concerned with the broad field of environmental change.
